Terminator Genisys

Movie: Terminator Genisys

Main Actors: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke and Emilia Clarke

MPAA Rating: PG-13

Passionate Expressions:  A decent amount of these.  There are evil robots trying to kill humanity after all.

Useless Vulgar Language:  Maybe some needless character toughness building, but not much.

Sex: To travel through time nudity is required (the audience and studios demand it).  Considering it is an PG-13 they show very little and there is in fact no actual nudity.  It probably would have made things a bit more real if they hadn’t been so concerned about teasing the audience.

Violence:  Violence is implied in the title.  There are quite a few action sequences in this movie.  I would say pretty much all the action was tied to the plot and they did not go the gore factor at all.  There are some machines covered with skin that comes off occasionally and if you are squirmy you might not like it.  Overall I would say there was no unnecessary violence.

Overall Rating:  B+

Cinematography: B

Visual Effects: A

Sound/Score: B

Story: B

Acting: B

Food to Watch With:  Cheeseburger because this is an All-American movie.

Plot Synopsis:  Machines become self-aware and decide to be giant dicks to everyone.

Review:  I did not have high hopes going into this movie.  I loved the first two Terminator movies but Salvation and Terminator 3 had left me slightly disappointed.  I drove to a theater late at night, waited through some severe traffic and ran through the parking lot to avoid become entirely soaked from the heavy rain to see this movie.  So, once I had my gigantic soda and sat down in my seat I was really hoping this movie would be fun.  It was, hooray.  I really enjoy the terminator universe.  I love the ideas and I love the potential it has.  This movie delved a bit more into the “time” war that Skynet is waging against us soft, fleshy humans and re-affirms how extremely difficult the machines are to destroy.  There were a few times where the time plot seemed to be to complicated for the writers and they just glossed over it and sometimes the acting was a bit forced (by the end of the movie I was really tired of Sarah Conner trying to talk us into believing she was a bad-ass; if she is supposed to be a hard-core character just have her be that way, stop telling us about it).  Arnold was pretty fun to watch and the effects were great.  As always, no spoilers.  However, if you are a fan of the Terminator series, I would say go watch this movie.  Also, if you are a fan of Doctor Who, get ready to have a smile on your face.

Life Lessons: JK Simmons is fun to watch in any movie he is in.

Summary:  Good addition to the Terminator franchise.

Would I Watch This Again:  I plan to buy it in Blue-Ray.

  1. First half was great. Second half with the timeline nonsense not so much. I liked JK and he was good though I’m not sure he contributed much of anything other than to lend his name to it.
